Security Operations at the 2025 Terezín Memorial Ceremony

The Terezín Memorial Ceremony is one of the most significant commemorative events in the Czech Republic. Held annually, it honors the victims of Nazi persecution and brings together senior government officials, foreign delegations, diplomats, Holocaust survivors, and members of the public. The 2025 ceremony, held in May, once again represented a complex security operation requiring detailed planning, close coordination, and the readiness of all participating organizations.
SIHASO's Role
SIHASO was proud to contribute to the event's security operations. Our role included developing preventive security measures, supporting operational coordination, and maintaining readiness to respond to any emerging incidents. Our objective was to help ensure that the ceremony took place safely, with dignity, and without disruption.
Security at Large-Scale Public Events
Events of this scale require far more than a visible security presence. Effective protection depends on comprehensive planning, detailed risk assessments, contingency planning, seamless coordination between multiple organizations, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances on site.
The combination of proactive planning and close cooperation among all stakeholders is essential to ensuring the safe and secure delivery of events attended by thousands of visitors, government officials, and other protected persons.
International Experience Applied in the Czech Republic
The security team also included Paul H. Haertel, who served for 29 years with the FBI in several senior leadership positions, including Legal Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Prague and Deputy Assistant Director of the Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG). His extensive experience in securing high-profile events and managing critical incidents provides valuable expertise for security planning and crisis preparedness within the Czech Republic.
