I would like to keep coming back here
Paul H. Haertel, former FBI liaison officer in Prague and former deputy director of the Critical Incident Response Group, has returned to the Czech Republic, this time as a security consultant and co-author of a preventive brochure on active shooter attacks. In an exclusive interview for Policista magazine, he reflects on his life at home and abroad: on the years spent with his family, friendships, and experiences he would never have had in the United States.
The seasoned profiler explains that no attack ever begins suddenly, each is preceded by thoughts, planning, and warning signs that require the attention of communities, families, and teachers alike. Although the Czech Republic is a safe country, Haertel believes that preparedness is never a mistake and that even the smallest signals can be critically important.
In his new home in the Czech Republic, he values the high level of cooperation with the police, emphasizes the need for community vigilance, and highlights the role of anonymous reporting, both in the United States and here, in preventing tragedies. And when he speaks about the Czech people, he does not forget to mention Czech cuisine, beer, and his plan: to keep coming back here gladly and often.
