The Charles University Faculty of Arts Shooting: What Lessons Does It Offer for the Security of Public Institutions?

The tragic attack at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in December 2023 was one of the most serious critical incidents in the modern history of the Czech Republic. • regular training for employees and organizational leadership,

Lessons for Public Institutions

The events of December 2023 demonstrated that even environments generally regarded as safe are not immune to extreme violence. Organizational preparedness is not defined simply by the existence of security measures, but by the ability of employees to respond correctly, communicate effectively, and manage the first critical minutes of an emergency in a coordinated manner.

The security of public institutions must therefore be treated as a long-term process involving prevention, regular testing of protective measures, staff training, and close cooperation with police, fire, and emergency medical services.
